A Grand Rapids native, Coach Eric Taylor has dedicated his life to shaping young athletes both on and off the court. A standout player himself, Taylor earned All-State honors at Wyoming Park high school and went on to become one of Oakland University’s most decorated basketball players, finishing his career with over 2,200 points and holding the school record for steals. A two-time All-American and GLIAC MVP, his legacy as a player set the foundation for his lifelong commitment to the game.

Following a 13-year professional career in Germany, France, Sweden, Great Britain, and the CBA (now G-League), Taylor transitioned to coaching, bringing his wealth of experience to Grand Rapids Community College before taking over as the head coach at Grand Rapids Christian High School. Under his leadership, the Eagles have become one of the premier programs in the state, winning conference, district, and regional championships while reaching the 2024 state championship game. With a career winning percentage of 81%, Taylor’s impact extends beyond victories—his mentorship has helped develop multiple NBA and college athletes, as well as countless young men prepared for life beyond basketball.

Currently serving as Dean of Student Life at Grand Rapids Christian High School, Coach Taylor continues to influence students both in the classroom and on the court. His dedication to excellence, leadership, and character-building aligns perfectly with the spirit of the Bathian Mason Impact Award.
